Krasnodar

Krasnodar City (Ekaterinodar till 1920) is an administrative, industrial, business and cultural centre of the Krasnodar region.

The area of the city is 84 thousand hectares and it is situated on the Kubano-Priazovskaya lowland, on the right bank of the river Kuban. Krasnodar is located approximately 120–150 km away from the Black and Azov seas.

Krasnodar is the multinational city with 786 000 people of 100 nationalities.

Due to its favorable economic and geographical position, Krasnodar is a big transport centre. Four major railways and two federal highways cross its territory. There are 2 airports (domestic and international) which serve 32 destinations in Russia and 5 abroad.  There are all kinds of transport in Krasnodar — air, railway and river transport, also buses, rout taxies and municipal electric transport — trams and trolleybuses.

Modern Krasnodar is the biggest industrial centre in the south of Russia. 150 large and medium as well as numerous small industrial enterprises employ about 120,5 thousand people. Main industries in Krasnodar are production of construction materials, metal processing, ready-made garments and knitwear production, furniture, tobacco production, food-processing. High economic potential together with favorable investment climate attracts attention of Russian and foreign businessmen.

The suburban agro-industrial complex covers 22 big farms and more than 1200 agricultural enterprises. Total area of agricultural land is 49 thousand hectares. Six big research institutes were established in Krasnodar to conduct all kinds of research in the sphere of agriculture.

There are more than 100 universities and institutes in the city.
Health care system in Krasnodar is one of the best in Russia. There are several specialized medical centers, like Pectoral Surgery Centre.
